Brandon Law

I’m a product designer based in Toronto, currently designing real-time data streaming experiences at Goldsky. Before this, I designed commerce experiences at Shopify, Wish and Square.

I’m a serial hobbyist, it can be a good or bad thing depending on who you ask. My work day always starts with a scroll on X to see what new technologies, interactions, animations, etc. I can try. It leaves me with a lot of Figma drafts and dead code, and it takes me longer to get to the final solution but at least it was fun.

Timeline

  1. 2024
    1. Product Designer, Goldsky

The true solo designer experience. Getting to touch all disciplines of designs from brand, graphic, marketing and product. I’ve lead brand refreshes, designed and launched new products, AI chatbots, design systems, trade show kiosks, etc. Shoutout to Kevin and EP.

  2. 2022
    1. Product Design Intern, Shopify

I was on the Merchandising team and helped ship the first version of unified publishing controls on the Product dashboard. Essentially, it let merchants see where their products were showing up, digitally and geographically.

  3. 2021
    1. Master of Information, University of Toronto

I specialized in Human-Centred Data Science. I felt like I needed to become more well-rounded and understand how to analyze data, so I guess getting a master’s degree was the way to do it.

    2. Product Design Intern, Wish

I’m not sure if I can share what I built, but I worked on Wish Local, their ship-to-store feature, making it easier for businesses to handle pick-up orders.

  4. 2020
    1. Product Design Intern, Together Software

Small team, fast pace. I moved between free trial experiences, scheduling availability features, and the first version of their design system.

    2. Product Design Intern, Square

I shipped some bulk action features on Square’s order management platform to help businesses handle large volumes of orders faster.

    3. Medium case study

This was my first design case study. I took it into all my early interviews, and it helped me land my first design internship. I was going to take it down, but Alita asked me not to… so here it is.

  5. 2019
    1. Digital Marketing & Customer Success Intern, Localcoin

This is where I really learned about the difficulties of Web3. I should’ve asked to get paid in Bitcoin back then ().

  6. 2017
    1. Content Marketing Assistant, RLDatix

It was a long time ago so I can’t really remember everything I did. But I do remember designing an infographic for our website, that was my first time using Adobe.

  7. 2015
    1. Bachelor of Environmental Studies, University of Waterloo

A degree in Environment and Business. It wasn’t for me in the end but I don’t regret it. I met some of my closest friends and fiancé there.

Things I enjoy

  • Falling asleep to documentaries on YouTube. Fern, Hoog, Secret Base, Real Science.
  • My cat, Safira. This girl will cry like it’s the end of the world but I love her to death.
  • Sports. I play volleyball, built my own racing sim rig, and recently got into football/soccer after the World Cup.
